Welcome to our guide to the best available online material, which you can access from your own home.
Until recently, we used to feature a variety of London events on this site, totalling over 600 pages since 2016. Suddenly, in March 2020, the coronavirus epidemic forced us into a complete redesign, and we now list web-based resources which you can view on your own computer or smartphone.
Our lives have ben completely transformed. We are advised to stay at home, while shops, restaurants, pubs, exhibitions and tourist attractions are closed for the foreseeable future. As a consequence, events such as lectures, concerts, exhibitions, festivals, and of course our own monthly pub nights, have been suspended for the time being.
There is an exciting virtual world out there, offering free entertainment, information, lectures, galleries, museums, concerts, videos, films, courses, discussion boards, games, and much more.
The majority of our suggestions are of interest to all, while some will prove to be invaluable to Luxembourg expatriates living in London. Access to the the sites is free, some require registration, and a minority may be restricted to users based in the United Kingdom.
Our legendary pub nights
In normal times, we meet every month at a Central London pub. However, these are not normal times, and in accordance with official government advice to avoid pubs, we reluctantly decided to discontinue these meetings for the time being.
Subscribers to our mailing list will be kept up to date in our regular newsletters, and future pub events will be publicised on this site once they resume.
As we don’t have a hierarchical structure and no subscription charges, our subscribers are the closest thing we have to club members. At present, there are over 180 of them. Some have been with us from the start, and there is a constant trickle of new recruits. They come in all shapes and sizes, and the majority of them are young Luxembourgers working in the City, or studying at university.
There is a core of regulars who attend the pub nights, (which are at present temporarily suspended), and a larger number who join us at the National Day Celebrations and at the very popular Ambassador’s Christmas Receptions. A few have moved away from London, and like to keep in touch.
Over the years, we have bonded into a group of close friends, ready to support each other with help and advice when required.
To subscribe to our regular newsletters, you can find a registration form on this page.
When registering, please make sure to include a brief message explaining who you are, and why you would like to join the Luxembourg Friends, to show that you are a bona fide applicant.
Regrettably, we may refuse your application if you merely send us your email address without telling us your reasons for joining.
If you’d like to get in touch, please send us your comments and suggestions. Just fill in the contact form below. Rest assured, we will not pass on your details to anybody.
We hope that we shall become firm friends!
