Alexandra Palace Open Weekend
December 1 - December 2Free
Theatre and East Court Opening Celebrations
Following the completion of the East Wing Restoration Project, Alexandra Palace in North London is throwing open the doors to its spectacular Theatre and East Court on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd December.
First opened in 1875, the Theatre was a marvel of Victorian engineering, with a stage allowing actors to disappear and to fly. Now, after 80 years of slumber, and after refurbishment work costing £27 million, the results are spectacular.
You can find out more about the Alexandra Palace Theatre here.
As part of the celebrations, there is a Santa’s Grotto, a Christmas market, a funfair including a ferris wheel, ice skating, live music, street food and free workshops and performances from the BBC Concert Orchestra and Haringey Music Service – there is something for everybody.
The Theatre is open to the public at various points throughout Saturday and Sunday, prior to the start of its opening season of shows on 3rd December.
The opening weekend marks the start of the Christmas Carnival – a two week festive extravaganza in the Theatre and East Court.
