London to Brighton Car Run 2019
The traditional London to Brighton Veteran Car Run takes place on Sunday 3rd November 2019.
It is the world’s longest-running motoring event – the first run took place as far back as 1896, to celebrate an Act of Parliament on the Locomotives on the Highway, increasing the speed limit for ‘light locomotives’ to 14 mph, from 2 mph in towns and 4 mph in the country, and removing the stipulation that an escort had to walk 20 yards in front of the vehicle as a warning to pedestrians.
To qualify, the participating cars must have been built before 1905.
The vehicles congregate in Hyde Park from 6.00 am, with the fist car departing at sunrise, around 7.00 am, and the last car leaving between 8.00 am and 8.30 am. They then follow a 54-mile course along the A23 to Brighton.
Good vantage points are along the Mall and near Westminster Bridge.
