The Myth of the Great Fire

April 5, 2017 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Free

Lecture by John Schofield at the Museum of London

Was the Great Fire of 1666 truly as destructive as everyone believes?

Was London’s architecture really transformed by the flames, or were there other factors already at play that contributed to the changing look of London after the Great Fire?

Join archaeologist and architectural historian, John Schofield, in this lecture as he debunks the myths surrounding the Great Fire of 1666 and explores whether or not it had as much of an impact on this city as we are led to believe.

John Schofield PhD, MPhil, FSA, MIFA is a distinguished urban archaeologist and architectural historian who has published widely on London history.

At the Museum of London, 150 London Wall, London EC2Y 5HN
